Eastern Great Egret
Ardea modesta

The adult Eastern Great Egret is a tall white wading bird of marshes, rivers, lakes, estuaries, rice fields, and tidal flats. It hunts alone by standing motionless or stalking slowly through shallow water before striking fish, frogs, crustaceans, insects, and small reptiles with a spear-like bill. In the breeding season it develops long ornamental plumes and displays with raised wings and harsh calls at nesting colonies. Despite its graceful flight, its main hunting advantage is patience and precision in water.
