Bar-headed Goose
Anser indicus

Bar-headed Geese breed around high-altitude lakes and wetlands in Central Asia, then migrate south to wintering wetlands and agricultural fields. Adults graze on grasses, sedges, grains, and aquatic vegetation, while also probing for small invertebrates. They are strongly social waterfowl and defend nesting areas with hissing, pecking, and forceful wing strikes. This species is renowned for migratory flights over the Himalayas, reaching altitudes that challenge most other birds.
