Barnacle Goose
Branta leucopsis

Barnacle Geese breed on Arctic tundra and rocky coasts, then migrate south to winter on coastal marshes, estuaries, and farmland. Adults graze mainly on grasses, sedges, and other low vegetation, using their short bills to crop plants close to the ground. They are vigilant birds and may hiss, spread their wings, and strike with the bill when defending themselves or a nest. The species is known for long migratory flights, with some populations crossing the Greenland Ice Sheet en route to breeding grounds.
