Greater Coucal
Centropus sinensis

Greater Coucals inhabit dense scrub, reedbeds, gardens, mangroves, and forest edges across much of South and Southeast Asia. Adults usually move quietly through thick vegetation or forage on the ground, using short, heavy flights rather than sustained aerial travel. They eat large insects, snails, frogs, lizards, small snakes, eggs, and other small animals. Their deep, resonant calls are often heard before the secretive bird itself is seen.
