Blue Ghost Firefly
Phausis reticulata

Adult blue ghost fireflies emerge in moist woodland clearings and along forest edges during late spring and early summer. Flying males drift low through the understory while giving long, bluish flashes to locate females; females are much less mobile and may remain near the ground. Adults are short-lived and feed little, if at all, compared with their predatory larval stage. Their unusually blue, sustained glow gives the species its ghostly common name.
