Wood Duck
Aix sponsa

Adult wood ducks live around wooded swamps, ponds, streams, and flooded forests, often perching or nesting in tree cavities near water. They feed on acorns, seeds, aquatic plants, fruits, and invertebrates by dabbling, tipping up, and picking food from the surface. Adults are agile flyers that can weave through trees, and males are famous for their ornate crests and bright breeding plumage. The species readily uses nest boxes, which has helped it recover after past habitat loss and overhunting.
