Desert Locust Gregarious Adult
Schistocerca gregaria (gregarious)

Gregarious adult desert locusts occur in arid and semi-arid grasslands, scrub, and agricultural landscapes across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. They form dense, highly mobile swarms and use sustained flight to travel between feeding areas, consuming grasses, crops, leaves, and other green vegetation. A notable fact is that a single swarm can cover vast distances and contain millions of individuals after crowded conditions trigger the gregarious phase.
