Snail Hunter
Cychrus caraboides
This nocturnal ground beetle patrols moist forests, gardens, and hedgerows, usually beneath stones or fallen leaves. It feeds chiefly on snails and slugs, grasping them with unusually long, narrow jaws. Despite its inability to fly well, it is a persistent hunter that can follow slime trails to concealed prey.
