Whiteleg Shrimp
Penaeus vannamei

Adult whiteleg shrimp inhabit warm coastal waters, estuaries, and muddy bottoms, often burying into sediment during the day. They are omnivorous scavengers that eat detritus, algae, worms, and small invertebrates. A powerful abdominal tail flip sends the shrimp rapidly backward when threatened.
