Brent Goose
Branta bernicla

Brent Geese breed on Arctic tundra and migrate to sheltered coastal bays, estuaries, and mudflats for winter. Adults feed chiefly on eelgrass, saltmarsh plants, and other shoreline vegetation, often grazing on land or dabbling in shallow water. They are strongly migratory birds and can travel long distances between their breeding and wintering grounds. When nesting or protecting young, adults may defend themselves with loud hisses, pecks, and forceful wing slaps.
