Russian Tortoise
Testudo horsfieldii

Adult Russian tortoises inhabit dry steppe, semi-desert, and scrubland across Central Asia, spending much of the year sheltered in deep burrows. They are chiefly herbivorous, grazing on grasses, leafy plants, and flowers when seasonal food is available. A sturdy shell and strong digging limbs help defend them against predators and harsh temperatures. Unlike many tortoises, they commonly have four claws on each forefoot, a useful identifying feature.
