Large Brown Cicada
Graptopsaltria nigrofuscata
Adult Large Brown Cicadas inhabit woodlands, parks, and gardens across Japan, where they rest on tree trunks and branches. They feed by inserting their beaks into plant tissues and drawing sap. Males produce a loud, sustained buzzing call during the warm summer breeding season, while their mottled brown bodies blend closely with bark.
