Rainbow Bee-eater
Merops ornatus

Rainbow Bee-eaters inhabit open woodlands, grasslands, wetlands, and sandy riverbanks across much of Australia, often gathering near nesting colonies in banks. They catch flying insects on the wing, especially bees and wasps, and commonly strike or rub stinging prey against a perch to remove the sting before swallowing it. Adults are highly agile fliers and may travel north after breeding, with some populations migrating to New Guinea.
