Red-tailed Black Cockatoo
Calyptorhynchus banksii

Red-tailed Black Cockatoos inhabit open eucalypt woodlands, savannas, and forest edges across much of Australia. Adults travel widely in search of seeds, especially from banksias, casuarinas, and eucalypts, using their large bills to break into tough cones. They are often seen in pairs or small parties and give far-carrying, harsh calls while flying overhead. Males are glossy black with bright red tail panels, while females have yellow-orange barring and spotted tail feathers.
