American Bumble Bee
Bombus pensylvanicus

The adult American Bumble Bee visits open grasslands, prairies, fields, and gardens where it gathers nectar and pollen from flowering plants. It flies with a loud buzz and uses its hairy body to carry pollen between flowers, making it an important native pollinator. Females can defend themselves with a venomous sting when handled or threatened. This species has declined across much of its range, making remaining healthy populations especially significant.
