American Crocodile
Crocodylus acutus

Adult American crocodiles inhabit coastal wetlands, mangrove lagoons, estuaries, and rivers from southern Florida through the Caribbean and Central America. They usually wait partly submerged before lunging at fish, turtles, birds, and mammals that approach the water. Their long, narrow snouts are well suited to catching fish, though large adults can overpower much larger prey. Unlike many crocodilians, they tolerate brackish and salt water and may travel between waterways along coasts.
