Fork-tailed Flycatcher
Tyrannus savana

The adult Fork-tailed Flycatcher inhabits open savannas, grasslands, wetlands, and agricultural landscapes across much of South America. It hunts chiefly by launching from an exposed perch to snatch flying insects in mid-air, often returning to the same lookout. Adults defend nesting areas boldly, swooping at intruders and giving sharp calls. The male's exceptionally long, deeply forked tail streamers are displayed during courtship and make the species unmistakable in flight.
