Cactus Wren
Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus

The adult cactus wren is a large, bold wren of deserts, dry grasslands, and thorn scrub in the southwestern United States and Mexico. It forages actively on the ground and in shrubs for insects, spiders, seeds, fruit, and occasional small vertebrates. Pairs build conspicuous football-shaped nests in spiny plants, and extra nests may be used for roosting outside the breeding season. Its loud, rasping call carries across open desert and helps advertise territory from exposed perches.
