Harbor Seal Pup

Harbor seal pups are born on sheltered beaches, sandbars, rocky shores, or sea ice along temperate and subarctic coasts. They nurse on rich milk from their mothers before gradually beginning to take small fish and other marine prey. Unlike many seal species, they can swim soon after birth, helping them cope with changing tides and reach safer water quickly.
