Common Wombat
Vombatus ursinus

Common wombats inhabit forests, heathlands, and grasslands of southeastern Australia, sheltering in extensive burrow systems. They are mostly nocturnal herbivores that graze on grasses, sedges, roots, and bark. When threatened in a burrow, an adult can use its heavily muscled rear to block the tunnel or crush an attacker against its roof.
