Ringtail
Bassariscus astutus

The adult ringtail is a nocturnal, cat-sized relative of raccoons found in rocky deserts, canyons, woodlands, and brushy habitats of western North America. It is an agile climber that hunts rodents, birds, lizards, and insects while also eating fruit and nectar when available. Rather than relying on strength, it slips through cracks, climbs vertical surfaces, and surprises prey under cover of darkness. One notable trait is its very long banded tail, which acts as a balancing aid during difficult climbs and leaps.
