Blotched snakehead
Channa maculata

The blotched snakehead inhabits slow rivers, ponds, marshes, and densely vegetated waterways in southern China and northern Vietnam. It is an ambush predator, waiting in cover before lunging at fish, aquatic insects, crustaceans, and amphibians. Its accessory breathing organ lets it take atmospheric air, allowing survival in warm, poorly oxygenated water.
