Brown Basilisk
Basiliscus vittatus

Adult brown basilisks live in tropical forest edges, thickets, and streamside habitats from Mexico through Central America into northern South America. They eat insects, spiders, small vertebrates, fruit, and flowers, switching between active foraging and watchful basking. Their famous escape tactic is sprinting across the surface of water for short distances using rapid foot slaps and fringed toes. Males develop a pronounced head and back crest used in display and territorial posturing.
