Anhinga Chick
Anhinga anhinga (chick)

Anhinga chicks hatch in stick nests built in trees or shrubs over warm freshwater wetlands, swamps, and slow-moving rivers. They remain dependent on their parents, begging for fish and other aquatic prey that adults bring back and regurgitate. Their sparse down and ungainly bodies make them vulnerable to heat, weather, and nest predators. A chick may climb about the nest and nearby branches before it is capable of sustained flight.
