Ruby-throated Hummingbird Nestling
Archilochus colubris (nestling)

Ruby-throated Hummingbird nestlings remain in a tiny cup-shaped nest, usually placed on a tree branch in eastern North American woodland edges, gardens, or yards. They are fed regurgitated nectar and tiny arthropods by their mother, who makes frequent visits throughout the day. Bare-skinned at hatching, they rapidly grow dark pinfeathers and gain mass before leaving the nest. A nest often expands considerably as the chicks develop, since it is built with flexible spider silk.
