Crested Gecko Hatchling
Correlophus ciliatus (hatchling)
Crested gecko hatchlings emerge in the humid forests of New Caledonia and stay hidden among leaf litter, bark, and low vegetation. They are nocturnal, using adhesive toe pads to climb while hunting tiny insects and licking soft fruit or nectar. A hatchling can shed its tail when startled, creating a brief distraction for a predator.
