Western Kingbird
Tyrannus verticalis

The adult Western Kingbird is a bold flycatcher of open habitats such as grasslands, ranchlands, orchards, roadsides, and scattered trees across western North America. It hunts from exposed perches, launching quick aerial attacks to catch flying insects and also taking some fruit, especially outside the breeding season. Adults are famously territorial and will dive-bomb much larger birds, including hawks and crows, near the nest. A squared black tail with white outer edges is one of its most recognizable field marks.
