Timber Rattlesnake Hatchling
Crotalus horridus (hatchling)
This newborn pit viper lives in forested and rocky parts of eastern North America, often staying near its birth area before dispersing. It hunts small prey such as young mice, lizards, frogs, and insects from concealed positions in leaf litter or among rocks. Though much smaller than an adult, it is born with functional venom and heat-sensing facial pits, allowing it to strike effectively from an early age.
