Mexican Spiny-tailed Iguana
Ctenosaura pectinata

Adult Mexican spiny-tailed iguanas inhabit dry tropical forest, rocky outcrops, stone walls, and open scrub along Mexico's Pacific coast. They are mostly herbivorous, eating leaves, flowers, and fruit, but may opportunistically take insects or other small animal food. Adults bask openly, defend refuges with head-bobbing displays, and retreat rapidly into holes or rock cracks when threatened. This species is notable for its powerful, spiny tail and reputation as one of the fastest-running lizards.
