Laughing Kookaburra Chick
Dacelo novaeguineae (chick)
Laughing kookaburra chicks hatch blind and sparsely feathered in a tree hollow, where they remain dependent on their parents. Adults bring them insects, small reptiles, and other animal prey, which the chicks swallow in large pieces. Nestlings grow quickly and may compete vigorously with their siblings for food.
