Mediterranean Gecko Hatchling
Hemidactylus turcicus (hatchling)

Freshly hatched Mediterranean geckos shelter in cracks in walls, loose bark, rock crevices, and other protected spaces in warm habitats. They emerge mostly at night to pick off tiny insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates. Much smaller and more vulnerable than adults, hatchlings rely on mottled camouflage and quick dashes to avoid predators. Their adhesive toe pads are already developed enough to let them climb vertical surfaces.
