White-tailed Jackrabbit Leveret
Lepus townsendii (leveret)

White-tailed jackrabbit leverets are born fully furred with open eyes in shallow grass-lined forms in open prairie, sagebrush, and grassland habitat. They remain still and camouflaged for much of the day, relying on their mother’s infrequent visits for rich milk. As they grow, they begin nibbling grasses and forbs before shifting to the broader plant diet of adults. Unlike many rabbit young, leverets are precocial and can move soon after birth.
