Spotted Lanternfly Nymph

Lycorma delicatula (nymph)

Spotted Lanternfly Nymph

This wingless juvenile planthopper is found on the stems and leaves of tree-of-heaven, grapes, maples, and other host plants in wooded edges, orchards, and gardens. It pierces plant tissue to drink sap and quickly hops away when disturbed. Early instars are black with white spots, while later nymphs develop bright red markings before molting into the adult.
