Common Five-lined Skink Hatchling
Plestiodon fasciatus (hatchling)

This newly hatched skink lives among leaf litter, loose bark, rocks, and fallen logs in eastern North American woodlands. It actively hunts tiny insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates while making quick dashes between cover. Its dark body, pale stripes, and brilliant blue tail help it evade predators, and the tail can be shed if seized.
