Field Ant
Formica accreta

Field Ants inhabit open ground, grassland edges, and soil-based nests, foraging across the surface in search of food. Adults eat small invertebrates, scavenged animal material, and sweet honeydew from plant-feeding insects. When threatened, they can use their mandibles and spray irritating formic acid as a chemical defense.
