Natterjack Toad
Epidalea calamita

An adult favors open sandy habitats such as dunes, heathland, saltmarsh edges, and disturbed ground with shallow temporary pools nearby. It eats ants, beetles, spiders, worms, and other small invertebrates, usually hunting at dusk or night. Rather than making long hops, it often runs with a distinctive quick gait and digs shallow burrows for shelter. Males are famous for an exceptionally loud rasping call that can carry over long distances during the breeding season.
