Amazon sailfin catfish
Pterygoplichthys pardalis

Adult Amazon sailfin catfish inhabit rivers, floodplains, and quieter backwaters across the Amazon basin. Mostly active at night, they use their broad mouths to rasp algae, detritus, and other material from submerged surfaces. Their armored body and large sail-like dorsal fin are distinctive, and they can gulp air when oxygen levels in the water are low.
