Banded cichlid
Heros severus
Adult banded cichlids inhabit sluggish rivers, lagoons, and seasonally flooded forest pools of northern South America. They are omnivores, grazing plant material and algae while also taking insects and other small animals. Breeding adults defend a chosen spawning surface and provide attentive care for their eggs and young.
