Sycamore Moth Caterpillar
Acronicta aceris (larva)
This hairy caterpillar lives on sycamore, maple, and horse-chestnut trees in woodland, parks, and gardens. It feeds by chewing broad leaves, often resting along twigs or the underside of foliage between meals. Its dense hairs and warning colouring can discourage predators, and the hairs may irritate exposed skin.
