Spotted Garden Eel
Heteroconger hassi

The adult spotted garden eel occupies sandy bottoms near coral reefs and slopes, keeping most of its body anchored in a permanent burrow. It extends into the current to pick small crustaceans and zooplankton from the water, withdrawing instantly when threatened. Its pale body bears distinctive dark spots, and the tail remains firmly buried even while the head and upper body sway with the current.
