Syrphid Fly
Toxomerus marginatus
Adult margined calligrapher flies frequent sunny gardens, meadows, and field margins rich in flowers. They hover precisely while feeding on nectar and pollen, and often visit blooms for long periods. Their yellow-and-black pattern mimics the warning colours of stinging wasps, despite the fly being harmless.
