Rainbow Scarab
Phanaeus vindex

Rainbow Scarabs inhabit open forests, fields, and pastureland across much of eastern North America. Adults locate fresh dung, which they bury as food and as provisions for their young. Males use their prominent head horn to wrestle rivals at tunnel entrances, while both sexes gleam with metallic blue, green, and copper coloration.
