Tenerife Giant Lizard Hatchling
Gallotia intermedia (hatchling)
This hatchling lives among rocky crevices and dry scrub on Tenerife, where it can quickly disappear into cover. It actively searches for small insects, tender leaves, and fallen fruit while avoiding larger predators. Its long tail can be shed to distract an attacker, giving the young lizard time to escape.
