Italian Striped Bug Nymph
Graphosoma italicum (nymph)

Young Italian striped bugs live on umbellifer plants such as wild carrot, fennel, and parsley relatives in sunny meadows and field edges. The nymphs cannot fly, so they stay close to feeding stems and use their piercing mouthparts to drink plant sap and developing seed juices. Their reddish-and-black pattern already warns predators that they can release unpleasant defensive chemicals. They pass through several molts before gaining full wings as adults.
