Hump Snout Lizard
Lyriocephalus scutatus
The adult hump snout lizard inhabits shaded rainforest vegetation in Sri Lanka, spending much of its time on trunks and branches. It waits motionlessly for insects, then makes a quick lunge to seize prey, while also taking some plant matter. Its flattened body and shifting green-to-brown coloration help it disappear against its perch. Males develop a particularly prominent hump-like projection on the snout and use visual displays during territorial encounters.
