Fieldfare
Turdus pilaris

The adult Fieldfare is a large thrush of open woodland, farmland, orchards, parks, and northern scrub, especially across Europe and northern Asia. It forages on the ground for earthworms and insects in warmer months, then relies heavily on berries and windfall fruit in winter. It flies strongly with direct wingbeats and can defend a nest site with repeated dives, harsh calls, and foul droppings aimed at predators. A notable fact is that its seasonal movements can be dramatic, with many birds shifting south or west when northern food supplies freeze.
