Lightning Whelk
Sinistrofulgur contrarium

Lightning whelks inhabit shallow coastal waters, tidal flats, and sandy estuaries along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. They move across the bottom using a broad muscular foot and prey on clams, other mollusks, and carrion. Their left-handed spiral shell is a notable feature, with its opening on the left side rather than the right.
