True Tulip
Fasciolaria tulipa

The adult true tulip inhabits sandy bottoms, seagrass beds, and oyster-rich coastal shallows in the western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. It is an active predatory sea snail that tracks down bivalves and other gastropods, feeding with its extendable proboscis and rasping radula. Its heavy, patterned shell provides strong protection while it moves across the seafloor. Adults lay clusters of distinctive egg capsules attached to firm surfaces in sheltered water.
