Common Hermit Crab
Pagurus bernhardus

Adult common hermit crabs inhabit coastal waters from the intertidal zone to deeper offshore bottoms, sheltering in discarded snail shells. They are omnivorous scavengers that consume carrion, algae, detritus, and small animals. Their unequal claws can block the shell opening, providing a strong defense against predators.
