Common Yellow Scorpion
Buthus occitanus

The common yellow scorpion inhabits rocky, scrubby, and semi-arid landscapes, sheltering under stones or in burrows by day. It emerges mainly at night to ambush insects, spiders, and other small animals. Powerful pincers hold prey while the raised tail delivers a venomous sting. Its body fluoresces blue-green under ultraviolet light, a striking feature shared by many scorpions.
